Creative Solace...

Taped on a wall in my workroom is the following quote by the great dancer, Martha Graham.

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action; and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. You must keep that channel open. It is not for you to determine how good it is, nor how valuable. Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is for you to keep it yours, clearly and directly."

I found this quote years ago, and wherever I've lived and set up my workroom I've always made sure the quote was in a visible place. There are just times when it's a comforting reminder, of why we may feel so driven to create, and the purpose is greater than we may realize at that moment.
So, for all my creative friends and readers, I hope you will find inspiration in these wise words by a great artist and pioneer in dance. May she continue to inspire us with our own stream(s) of creative work.

( I'm so entrenched in work production right now that I'm feeling a bit like the emotions expressed in this photo! Anyone else with me in this stage of creating?:))

this is so inspirational, i am glad you are sharing this lovely quote with us ! your blog is so special - likewise your creations. i am very greatful for your comments - they really mean a lot to me. thank you also for your sweetness and your word of appreciation, before deciding to blog about my craft project it took me a while as i always tend to be insecure about everything i do, but i have to tell you i am so impressed with the amount of good people i came accross through blogging that like your quote says i am so happy that i finally decided to let that creative energy flow - it has been ignored for far too long - and yes i will try to keep the door open ...
thank you dear, have a nice week end!

this is such an inspirational quote-i often stop projects or don't begin them because i feel they are not good enough-this is reminding me to keep going as that is not for me to decide so thank you! i have always loved this photography as well-so often i feel like this-i think i should just stop what i am doing and do my own kind of dance and work it out! wishing you the best with your projects!

Hi Stella and thank you for your lovely comment. I don´t think I will be sold out soon as the problem is that we are living far out in the country and not so many people come by... And many seem to be reluctant to enter private property (you have to cross our courtyard to get to the carriage)despite my welcoming signs! But I pass around leaflets and postcards every time I come to the small towns nearby as tey´re heaving with tourists, so let´s see!

I love that quote - I think I´m going to put it up in my studio too. It is so important to let your creativity flow free no matter what others may say or think but sometimes it can be hard to keep going and keep your spirits up and then you need something like this to keep that door open!

And I love that poppy corsage - it´s so delicate and full of grace, incredible.

Love Kirsten

wonderful quote Stella!

we all need something to get us through those dark moments of doubt and negativity... taking a wee tea and chocolate break, and visiting some friends here in blogland does it for me... i find strength in knowing i'm not the only one... :)

btw, thank you for your lovely comments about my pot holder wall art... i'm thrilled with the response i've had so far!
