Taped on a wall in my workroom is the following quote by the great dancer,
Martha Graham.
"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action; and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. You must keep that channel open. It is not for you to determine how good it is, nor how valuable. Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is for you to keep it yours, clearly and directly."
I found this quote years ago, and wherever I've lived and set up my workroom I've always made sure the quote was in a visible place. There are just times when it's a comforting reminder, of why we may feel so driven to create, and the purpose is greater than we may realize at that moment. So, for all my creative friends and readers, I hope you will find inspiration in these wise words by a great artist and pioneer in dance. May she continue to inspire us with our own stream(s) of creative work.
( I'm so entrenched in work production right now that I'm feeling a bit like the emotions expressed in this photo! Anyone else with me in this stage of creating?:))
